In advance of former FBI director James Comey’s testimony in front of a Senate Intelligence Committee on Thursday, his prepared remarks have been released. And they are...a doozy.
Comey’s testimony is expected to shed light on the nature of President Trump’s involvement in an investigation into possible Russian election meddling. His written statement doesn’t reveal a ton of new information, but it is full of jaw-dropping details. Trump repeatedly asked Comey for his “loyalty” and implied to Comey that the FBI should drop its investigation into fired national security advisor Michael Flynn, saying, “He is a good guy. I hope you can let this go.” These conversations made Comey so uncomfortable that he started keeping detailed records of them.
“I did not reply or ask him what he meant by ‘that thing.’”
The full statement is well worth reading, but the best is last: Trump told Comey, “I have been very loyal to you, very loyal; we had that thing you know.” “I did not reply or ask him what he meant by ‘that thing,’” Comey wrote. “That was the last time I spoke with President Trump.”
It’s unlikely that Comey will make any Earth-shattering revelations in his testimony tomorrow, but it’s sure to be entertaining.
