If you needed any further evidence as to how truly bad America’s healthcare system is, a new report from Bloomberg will sink you into a deep, dark, depression. But don’t sink too deep: you might end up in debt.

The report found that almost half of the money produced via crowdsourced funding on sites like GoFundMe and YouCaring goes to healthcare-based causes, more specifically individual people and families who need money to cover their medical bills, living expenses, and medications when they are sick and sometimes when they’re dying. And these sites are making bank off the so-called charity they enable. GoFundMe takes 5 percent of donations while YouCaring pulls 2.9 percent. The report says that about $930 million of the $2 billion that GoFundMe raised since its launch has gone to medical causes, while YouCaring says that half of its fundraising efforts (totalling $800 million) have gone to medical expenses.

Of course, these numbers are probably only going to balloon further (Bloomberg says YouCaring expects to triple its growth rate this year) if Obamacare is replaced by Trumpcare, which almost all experts on planet Earth agree will be disastrous for everyone involved.
