CoverGirl is very mad at Young Thug

The makeup brand didn’t appreciate the rapper’s play on its marketing language.

The makeup and cosmetics brand CoverGirl has issued a statement denouncing rapper Young Thug’s latest album, Beautiful Thugger Girls. In a teaser for the album, a group of women wearing black ski masks with “E.B.B.T.G.” stitched on them beat another girl in what appears to be a gang initiation. The acronym on their hats stands for “Easy Breezy Beautiful Thugger Girls,* a play on CoverGirl's iconic slogan, “Easy, breezy, beautiful... CoverGirl.” In a statement released today to Billboard, the brand said:

“CoverGirl was not contacted by Young Thug or any parties regarding his original album title. ...The album is not aligned with our values at CoverGirl. Violence and abuse are unacceptable behaviors. We do not support the use or association of our iconic slogan, ‘Easy, Breezy, Beautiful, CoverGirl’ with Young Thug’s video, album or promotional materials.”

Beautiful Thugger Girls is Young Thug’s first foray into singing, though much of his work has long relied on inventive vocal melodies. For what it’s worth, the teaser video is actually not a very good representation of the album’s music.
