World Dispatch: Monopoly tears people apart

And we added new rules that somehow made the game scarier, today on The Outline World Dispatch.

Every Monday through Thursday, The Outline World Dispatch brings you stories about Power, Culture, and the Future. We guarantee you’ll feel smarter and more hydrated. Hosted by yours truly.

One night in the Outline office, I looked over at a conference room and saw that a few of my coworkers had gathered to play what looked like a standard game of Monopoly. There was pizza. I thought I spotted (real) cash. My initial thoughts were: Why are you guys still here? Why am I still here? Can I have some pizza?

I would later learn that this was part of a social experiment concocted by Outline culture editor Jeremy Gordon: What would Monopoly be like with real money, crime, and order of play based on real-life privilege? It was smart. It was a little twisted. And you can hear our team breaking down while attempting Jeremy’s rules on today’s episode.

Like what you hear? We like you, too. So let’s make it official. Subscribe to us at any of the places below.
