At the U.S.-Mexico border, most refugees fleeing violence in Central America are women, teenagers, and children.
\nAs soon as they arrive at the border, many are put into ICE detention. 11,786 minors are currently held in ICE detention.
\nAccording to ProPublica, over 100 of those children are younger than four.
\nTrump has been relentless in his rhetoric over immigrants arriving from Central America. At a May 23 meeting with media in New York, he falsely claimed that children traveling to the U.S. “exploited loopholes” and were “not innocent.”
