Land Grab
The US returned some lands to Japan
About 10,000 acres of US training land on Okinawa will go back to the Japanese government. Protests held up the return of the land, which was agreed to in 1996.
Residents have opposed the presence of US bases and military training locations since the US ended its post-war occupation of the island in 1972.
This return is the largest transfer of land since the end of that occupation.
